Shree Ram

The story of the Shree Ram Mandir (Ram Temple) in Ayodhya is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology and history. The temple is dedicated to Lord Rama, one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu, and it holds immense significance for millions of Hindus around the world. The tale of the temple involves historical, religious, and cultural dimensions, and here's a summary of the key events:

  1. Historical Background: The history of the Shree Ram Mandir dates back to ancient times. According to Hindu mythology, Ayodhya is considered the birthplace of Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The epic Ramayana, written by Sage Valmiki, narrates the life and adventures of Lord Rama, including his exile, the abduction of his wife Sita by the demon king Ravana, and the eventual triumph of good over evil.

  2. Birth of Lord Rama: Lord Rama was born to King Dasharatha and Queen Kaushalya in Ayodhya. His birth is celebrated on the festival of Ram Navami. Rama grew up to be a noble and virtuous prince, known for his unwavering commitment to dharma (righteousness).

  3. Exile and Return: Rama's stepmother, Kaikeyi, manipulated King Dasharatha into sending Rama into exile for 14 years. Accompanied by his wife Sita and loyal brother Lakshmana, Rama spent his years in the forest, where he encountered various challenges, including the battle with the demoness Surpanakha.

  4. Abduction of Sita and Victory over Ravana: The demon king Ravana abducted Sita, leading to a quest by Rama and Lakshmana to rescue her. With the help of an army of monkeys led by Hanuman, Rama waged war against Ravana and ultimately defeated him, rescuing Sita and returning to Ayodhya.

  5. Construction of the Temple: The historical narrative of the Shree Ram Mandir centers around the belief that the temple was originally built on the spot where Lord Rama was born. The temple is said to have been constructed by Lord Rama's devotee, King Vikramaditya, and later expanded and renovated by various rulers over the centuries.

  6. Babri Masjid and Controversy: The site of the Shree Ram Mandir became a subject of controversy in the modern era. The Babri Masjid, built in the 16th century by Mughal Emperor Babur, was situated at the same location. In 1992, the mosque was demolished by a group of people, leading to widespread communal tensions.

  7. Legal Disputes and Resolution: The Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi dispute resulted in legal battles spanning several decades. In 2019, the Supreme Court of India delivered a historic verdict, granting permission for the construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site while also allocating a separate piece of land to the Muslim community for the construction of a mosque.

  8. Construction of the New Temple: Following the Supreme Court's verdict, the construction of the Shree Ram Mandir in Ayodhya began. The temple design is inspired by traditional Indian architecture and is expected to become a significant pilgrimage site for Hindus.

The Shree Ram Mandir holds profound spiritual and cultural importance for Hindus, symbolizing the reverence for Lord Rama and the triumph of righteousness over injustice.
