Gender equality is a major step that helps in other areas of sustainable development like promoting economic growth, reducing poverty, and ensuring peaceful and inclusive communities. This is why enough focus should be laid on Gender Equality. Now, what is the role of family and school as far as Gender Equality is concerned? Let’s delve into this further.
Role of Family: Family is the first school of a child. Providing them a bias-free environment is critical to their overall well-being and growth. Living with the traditional thought that girls are supposed to stay behind the curtain or work in the kitchen while boys sit back and relax should not be appreciated.Be it a girl child or a boy child, both should be given equal set of opportunities. Setting it right at stage 1 goes a long way.
Role of School: School is where a child spends most of their waking hours. An environment that is conducive to modern thinking helps them grow just right. Teachers should create a bias-free atmosphere in the school. Girls and boys should be treated as equals. Conservative thinking that boys are superior to girls or why boy children are preferred over girl children in families should not be promoted.
School learning shapes a child in a permanent mould and hence critical care should be taken to create an environment where gender stereotypes are curbed in the very beginning.
