Ghee-Roasted Makhana for Navratri
by Pradeep Gupta on Oct 13, 2026The crunch that interrupts the conversation.
A crisp bowl of ghee-roasted makhana belongs beside a long family chat. This simple Navratri snack uses Dinesh Flour Mills Phool Makhana, A2 Gir Cow Bilona Ghee and Sendha Namak. Roast slowly and test one piece before taking the pan off the heat.
Prep: 5 minutes | Cook: 12 minutes | Yield: 3
Additional time: None
Ingredients
- 3 cups (about 60 g) Dinesh Flour Mills Phool Makhana
- 1 tbsp Dinesh Flour Mills A2 Gir Cow Bilona Ghee
- 1/4 tsp Dinesh Flour Mills Sendha Namak, or to taste
- 1/4 tsp Dinesh Flour Mills Kali Mirch powder, optional
- 1/4 tsp roasted Dinesh Flour Mills Jeera powder, optional
How to make it
- Heat the ghee in a wide, heavy pan on low heat.
- Add the makhana and stir for 8-10 minutes, moving the pieces around so they roast evenly.
- Break or bite a cooled piece. It should snap and be crisp through the centre, with no chewy middle. Continue roasting if needed.
- Switch off the heat. Sprinkle with sendha namak and optional pepper or jeera powder. Toss while still warm so the seasoning sticks.
- Serve immediately, or cool completely before transferring to an airtight container.
Kitchen tip: Use a wide pan and low heat. A crowded pan or high flame can leave the centres chewy while the outside browns.
